Oakwood Athletic Club welcomes you and your children to ClubKid.  Our Child Care department is open to its members Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 8:00 pm, Saturday 7:30 am to 7:30 pm, and Sunday 7:30 am to 7:00 pm.  Children 6 weeks to 12 years are welcome.  Call Childcare directly at 962-6200 or Oakwood Front Desk at 283-4000.

Our Junior Room is designed specifically for children ages 6 years and older.  There are age related board games, video games, a computer, books, and plenty of cozy seating in a quiet atmosphere for your child to relax after school to unwind and complete their homework.  The Junior Room is open Monday through Friday 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, and on Saturday and Sunday 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.

Due to the nature of our service being an unlicensed child care versus a day care facility, parents must remain on the premises at all times, and it is recommended that children are not left for more than two and one half hours.  For safety and liability reasons, members may only check in and out their own children.  This includes grandparents and relatives.

Ratios:

Oakwood Athletic Club complies with state ratio requirements for unlicensed child care facilities as follows:

6 weeks to 2 years..... 1 staff member to 4 infants

2 to 6 years..... 1 staff member to 12 preschool age children

6+ years..... 1 staff member to 14 school age children

Reservations

In order to provide excellent service to all Oakwood members with children, child care services are offered on a reservation system to make the process easy and fair.  Members may call child care no more than 2 days in advance to make a reservation which will then be logged into a binder with a daily calendar.  Reservations can only be made for your own children and must be made on the regular child care extension.  Voice mail reservations are not accepted.  Members are eligible for 2-1/2 hours of reserved time.  Walk-ins are discouraged but will be taken space permitting.  There will be a 15-minute grace period allowed for all reservations.  If members do not check in within the grace period, they forfeit the reservation and a no show fee will be charged to their account.  Please note:  children must be picked up on time, regardless of whether the full 2-1/2 hours allowed is reserved, in order to avoid a late fee being assessed.

Cancellations

Voice mail is available to make cancellations.  Cancellations must be made a minimum of two hours in advance of the reservation in order to avoid the late cancellationfee.

Check-In Procedures

To check a child into ClubKid, parents must give the child care attendant their membership number. The parent will receive two numbered tags, one to attach to the child’s clothing and a duplicate tag to be kept by the parent to be used to check the child out of ClubKid. In order to avoid confusion, tags should be attached to a child’s clothing rather than jackets, blankets or car seats that will not remain with the child at all times. All children, including juniors, will be assigned a tag in order for capacity limits to be monitored. For the safety of all children, parents must refrain from entering into the inner child care area.  Pertinent information must be provided at check-in, including the location within the Club where the parent plans to be, and any special instructions.

Check-Out Procedures

For the safety and protection of all children, it is important that parents go through the proper procedures when picking up children from ClubKid. The duplicate tag given to parents at check-in should be given to the child care attendant, and the attendant will retrieve the child from the inner portion of ClubKid.  Due to safety reasons, parents are not allowed to enter into this inner portion of the child care area.

Fees

The fee for child care is $6.00 per hour per child.  This fee does not apply, however, for children who are Oakwood members or paying the youth fee.  The service is offered for 2-1/2 hours per day per child, and at a nominal fee thereafter up to a maximum of four hours.

   Additional Fees:

Health Guidelines

Health issues are a concern for everyone.  ClubKid relies on each family’s thoughtful assessment of their child’s health.  In order to assist you, we have provided you with the following helpful guidelines which our staff will use to ensure a healthy environment year round.

FEVER:  Any temperature above 99.0 or severe subnormal temperature.

COLD:  A runny nose with colored discharge is the most common sign.  Also a fever or loss of energy.

COUGH:  Any cough with mucus secretion (a wet or wheezy cough) can spread bacterial or viral infection on the droplets.  Please Note:  A dry hacking cough (no droplets) is generally a non-contagious allergy.

RASH OR SKIN IRRITATION:  Poison oak, impetigo, ring worm, cold sores, head lice, and communicable diseases (measles, chicken pox, mumps, etc.) often have rashes or itching as symptoms.  Please Note:  Food or other allergy irritation must be substantiated.

DIARRHEA:  Loose, very watery, or mucus filled stools.

VOMITING:  Recurring or projectile vomiting with a fever.

PINK EYE:  Any unusual irritation of the eye or mucus membranes (such as conjunctivitis).

ALLERGIES:  If a child has allergies and is therefore exhibiting flu symptoms but is not contagious, a doctor’s note is required.

Oakwood staff will assess each child’s health upon arrival into ClubKid each day.  They will discuss the health problems with the parent.  The staff may use discretion in accepting a child who shows signs of illness.  Please inform ClubKid of contagious illnesses contracted by your child (example: lice, chicken pox, measles, etc.).

The health guidelines apply to the ClubKid staff, as well so that they do not infect children or other staff.  Parents must accept the judgment of the staff regarding these guidelines.

General Guidelines

Each child using the child care service at Oakwood must have a current information/waiver card on file. Any special medical conditions, including allergies, should be noted being as specific as possible. It is important for parents to keep these cards updated with current information.

Newborn infants may utilize ClubKid at the age of six weeks.  Before a newborn may be checked into child care, a six–week doctor’s release or copy of a birth certificate must be provided.  Newborns up to the age of three months will be allowed to stay a maximum of 90 minutes per day.  Parents are asked to make sure the baby is fed and changed.

Children must be signed in and out on daily sheets.  You can leave any special instructions with the child care givers.

Parents must remain on the Oakwood premises at all times while using ClubKid.  You will be contacted if you are needed by your child.

When arriving at ClubKid, children should be fed, dry and properly dressed, including shoes.  For safety reasons, shoes must be worn at all times.  If a child has a tendency to take their shoes off, please inform the child care attendant at check-in.

Based on the square footage of the child care facility, the maximum number of children allowed in child care at any one time is 78.  Due to safety concerns, at any one time, we can accommodate a maximum of 12 children non-walking under the age of 2, and 13 walking children under the age of 2.

Activities

There are planned arts and crafts for the children to participate in.  Different activities are scheduled according to the age groups that predominate in child care.  Activity themes change monthly, and you can find a schedule of activities in ClubKid.

Included in the planned activities are drop-in Kid Gym classes which are made available to children in ClubKid, ages 3 to 5.  Specialty classes are not included.  Children are escorted from ClubKid to a studio.  Children may be checked out of ClubKid at the end of class withthe instructor, but may not be taken while in transit between class to ClubKid.  Children not checked into ClubKid before the beginning of class must be picked up in the studio by the parent at the end of class.  Please note:  the safety of all children is a primary concern of Oakwood Athletic Club, and being able to account for each child in our care is of vital importance.  We appreciate your cooperation in working within our guidelines to ensure your child’s safety.

Staff

Staff members are chosen for their skill with children as well as their warmth and sensitivity to the needs of the children.  All staff is trained in CPR.  Should an emergency occur, parents will be notified immediately.

Behavior Problems

If a child exhibits aggressive behavior toward another child and inflicts physical harm, i.e. biting or hitting, the parent of the aggressor will be notified to remove that child from ClubKid.  The second incident of this type will result in a 30 day suspension of childcare privileges in order to allow time for behavior modification.  Disrespect to childcare attendants or vulgar language will not be tolerated and the parent will be asked to remove the child.  The second incident of this type will also result in a 30 day suspension of childcare privileges.

Personal Items

We ask that personal items not be brought into ClubKid or the Junior Room.  If “comfort” items such as blankets, bottles, etc., are important for the child’s tranquility, please mark them with masking tape or permanent marker.  Oakwood Athletic Club is not responsible for lost or broken items.

Diaper Changes

Diaper changes will be performed as needed and as staffing allows, however, parents are asked to provide the diapers.  If parents would like to be called to come change their child’s diaper, if needed, please let our staff know when checking in.  There will be a $1 charge for Oakwood's diapers. Diaper changes do not include those children who wear, cloth diapers, pull-ups or soiled underpants.

Snacks

For the safety and well being of all children, food in ClubKid will be limited to Club-provided snacks at specific times during the day as follows.

• 9:30 am      • 11:30 am      • 2:00 pm      • 4:30 pm      • 7:00 pm

These guidelines are established for the safety of all children utilizing child care at the Club and are subject to change.  Failure of parents to follow these guidelines could result in temporary suspension of childcare privileges.  Please address any questions regarding these guidelines to the childcare director or the Club General Manager.
